Article Writing, I Should Have Paid More Attention In Writing Class Back At College
Thursday 12 July 2007 @ 8:19 pm

As a network marketer you must have realized the importance of
starting to write articles. Creating your own content by writing
articles for your website is imperative. Learning to write
properly is second.

Being the publisher for The Article Group I see many article
submissions. I am sorry to say that a majority of these articles
are rejected. Loading my article directory with a large number
of junk articles does an in-service to both authors and
publishers.

What I Dislike That Leads To Rejection

1. Headline - Keyword phrase should certainly be the first
words. No exception.

2. First Paragraph - It Should Be No More Than 38 Words. Two to
Three short sentences with the keywords from your headline
included near the beginning.

3. Single line paragraphs are scrutinized heavily.

4. Long sentences should be split into shorter ones. If a
sentence is over two lines, it can be split up.

5. Do Not Put Links In Article. There is plenty of room in the
resource box.

6. Body Headlines - Split the article with headlines in the
body. Just keep them short and capitalize the first letter of
each word.

7. Last Paragraph - This should be a summary of your article. Do
not add links or beg to go to your site. Use the resource box
for your begging. I do.

8. Resource Box - Try and keep down to four lines. Try to
include the keyword phrases you are using on your site. If you
are linking to an internal page of the site, use the keywords on
that page, not your home page.

These are just eight of the guidelines I use. There is more that
goes into accepting or declining articles written to my
directory. I hope this article will help you in getting the
articles you write published. Please follow them. If you do, I
will publish your articles and so will others.

Is Your Resource Box Working As Well As It Should Be?
Sunday 8 July 2007 @ 5:52 pm

Everyone says that “The internet is the information highway”

However this phrase has been used so many time that it is more
of a cliché.

People going on to the internet can be subdivided into groups,
but generally, they are out searching for information. Whether
for fun, business or any other information, the internet has
provided us with information that has proved to be very
beneficial.

More and more sites have seen the effects that articles can do
to improve the traffic of their sites.

Some people have even created sites devoted entirely to
providing articles that could be read by their website visitors
and have links that could lead to many sites that are related to
the topics and subjects of the articles.

As a website visitor reads the articles they have searched for,
they can find at the end of the article a resource box that can
be clicked on to link them to the site that has submitted the
article. More often than not, the article would be in relation
to the site.

For example if the article is about picking the correct golf
club, the resource box may lead to a link to a site that sells
golfing accessories.

A resource box is what you would find at the end of an article.
They will contain the name of the author, a brief description of
the author, a brief description of the sponsoring site and a
link.

If a reader found what they they read beneficial, they might
like to find out where the article came from to read more. The
resource bow will be their link to the source of the article and
this will entice them to go to the site to do some more reading
or research for the subject or topic they are interested in.

Just as important as the article itself, the resource box must
also be eye-catching and compelling to demand the attention and
interest of the reader. While the resource box encompasses only
a small space, providing the right keywords and content for your
resource box will provide more reasons for the reader to go to
your site.

What are the benefits of having a good resource box?

The most important benefit would be to drive targetted traffic
to your site. Many sites would allow articles to be placed in
their sites because they can make use of the articles to fill
their pages. They also get affiliation with other sites that can
be benfit them as well. For the sponsoring site, when you get
people to click on your resource box, you generate targetted
traffic that can be counted upon as potential customers.

What would be good content for your resource box?

Basically it is keywords, learning about the proper keywords
that people are mainly searching for. There are many tools on
the internet that can help you zero-in on what keywords to use.

Resource boxes can also make use of all the creativity it can
get. You only get a small space for your resource box so you
should make the most of it. Try to catch the attention of your
reader with resource box content that can make them give a
second look. Unlike TV or magazine advertisements, you don’t
have the luxury of using visual aids to drive your point in.

What you do have is the power of imagination of a reader. With
the right content, you can make them think and be intrigued.

You should also only use keywords that are related to your site.
Do not attempt to trick your readers to visit your site. Build
your credibility so that more people would get enticed to visit
your site and browse what you have to offer.

Make the people click your resource box by providing resource
box content that makes a lasting impression. You only get one
chance to wow them and hundreds of chances to repulse them. So
use this only chance wisely.

The resource box may be small in size but they will provide a
significant aid in driving traffic to your site. Be fun and
creative while showing that you have a great deal to offer.

There are many tips and guides that can help you in doing this,
the first and most important step is realizing how important a
resource box could be in making people click your link and be
directed to your site.

Link building
Monday 2 July 2007 @ 9:20 am

A web directory is a internet web page consisting of categorized
links to other web pages. They specialize in linking to other
web sites and categorizing those links. Web directories often
allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion. One such
web directory is http://directory.google.com/. Some sites may
offer up to 30,000 different categories. Links provided may be
pure HTML- no CGI or PHP. SEO (search engine optimization),
friendly links are considered better then other links and help
you increase the popularity of your page, in terms of the page
rank. The most critical factor effecting the success or failure
of a site is its link building. Most well known sites have an
exhaustive list of categories and allow for the best category
fit.

What these web sites follow is the most effective way of online
marketing- Link Building. Link building is somewhat like word of
mouth marketing. When a trusted site links itself to yours, it
sure acts as a positive recommendation for your site. This is
the way linking works. A well synchronized and linking strategy
will surely bring in a regular stream of qualified prospects to
your site. This not only raises your profile but also boosts
your search engine ratings. Linking is another avenue in online
marketing, capable of boosting your business without costing you
a fortune. Linking can be started from any site, portal, blog
etc, and all have a tremendous potential of driving your
business to new heights. Though linking can be started through
individual efforts, but those looking for sure results in real
quick time for their business, they can help themselves by
taking the services of professional link building. Linking is
not only about having the maximum number of links on the World
Wide Web, but rather about the maximum number of effective
links, Links that shall bring in more business.

The following categories are the most common for any directory
catering to people in general by means of providing links:

Arts (television, music, movies), Business (investing, real
estate, employment), Computers (software, hardware n internet),
Games (Video games, gambling, role-playing), Health (fitness,
medicine, alternatives), Home (consumer information, Family,
cooking), Kids and Teens (teen life, school time, arts),
News(weather, newspaper, media) Recreation (humor outdoors,
food, travel etc), Reference (libraries, maps, education)
Regional (Europe, Canada, UK, US…), Science (biology, physics
psychology), Shopping (clothing, gifts, autos), Society (people,
issues, religion, and spirituality etc), Sports (basketball,
baseball, golf etc).

The working for the web directories is not very complex. Users
are guided through a series of options pertaining to every
option as given on the main page. For e.g.: Business: News and
media: Book Reviews if as a typical line of search you follow,
you shall be taken to the sites short-listed sites, according to
the preferences you have. The above e.g. shall give you results
like the following

• XYZ News Business Index - Business news and commentary
articles. • 123 Asset Management - Information about various
asset management categories. • ABC Business - Information on
setting up in business, managing your money, personal finances
and making the right career move.

The above three results shall be links to the sites which the
directory feels is most appropriate for you search. Thus
similarly, other searches aid you in short listing or reaching
the sites for your search.

Visions of a new entrepreneur
Thursday 21 June 2007 @ 2:33 am

Having trouble making your dream come true? Well, I did. I had a
vision of being the richest CEO in the country. And well, I am
far from it. It all started last April when I saw this
infomercial called SMC (Specialty Merchandising Corporation) and
what they do is if you sign up for their service, you have
access to their inventory. Their products, from a member’s
standpoint, are a much lower cost for them while you can gain
profit from selling them at THEIR retail price. Their retail
price is ridiculous and shameful. I know, for a fact, no one
will buy those products at those prices. It was pretty sad for
me to waste my money for their service, but what can I do?
(Notice: I had this service for over 30 days so no refund for
me). You know what I did? I took all of my catalogs from SMC,
put it in my desk drawer and never looked at it again. However,
a year later I had a vision; a vision to be an entrepreneur.
That’s everyone’s dream, right? I was searching around the net
on yahoo and found out that yahoo has their own small business
program that enables me to make my dream come true. I just
download their program called Yahoo Site builder 2.2 and I can
make my own website with no experience at all. Nevertheless, I
got my catalogs from SMC and started to accumulate how I would
start this website. So, I had one question in mind, “How can I
attract customers?” The first thing that came into mind was the
name of my website. It took me awhile, but I figured it out. So
I figured out the name “Kinglot,” which originally came from
Biglots. In addition, I wanted my business name related to a big
retailer’s store; same as Wal-Mart got its name from Kmart.
Nonetheless, it took me two months to finish my website because
I did it the long way. I had no HTML, PHP, and CGI experience.
Also, I did not want a webmaster to do my website. However, my
problem wasn’t that. My biggest problem was pricing, so I
lowered my prices. From $39.99 and up, it’s 50 percent off. From
$19.95 to $34.95, it’s 40 percent off. From $17.95 and down,
it’s 30 percent off. You see, my mission is to provide my
customers with the best quality products at an affordable price.
This was my mission in the first place and hopefully my business
will flourish. So, I hope your dream will come. If I can do my
website on my own, so can you.

Visit my site: www.kinglot.com Our mission is to provide you
with the best quality products at an affordable price. From home
and garden to gifts and collectibles, everything is 30 to 50
percent off from the retail price. Come in and see for yourself!

Not All Links Are Created Equal
Wednesday 6 June 2007 @ 10:50 pm

When it comes to any website promotion campaign, there are two
main areas to focus on. The first area to focus on is your
internal campaign, which deals with anything you can do to the
pages of your website, such as content, meta tags, and titles.
This is completely within your control even if you use a Web
designer to do any changes for you, as you can dictate what is
on your website. The other area to focus on is your external
campaign, which largely deals with getting links from other
sites – something that is mostly out of your control and is
usually a lot more work.

Internal Campaign

Links, or hyperlinks to use their full name, are often
misunderstood by people wanting to improve their search engine
ranking. Links from your website going out to other sites will
not boost your search engine ranking, although some relevant,
on-topic links to prominent sites can help. Also, creating lots
of links to your internal pages is not the same as links from
other websites in the eyes of search engines. These two
misunderstandings have caught out many a website owner.

The important thing to remember is that you do not want to have
too many links on your pages. This does two things that can be
deemed harmful to your goal of improving search engine ranking.
Having a large list of links on a single page can cause search
engines to suspect a link farm, Web ring, or other such
unnatural linking structure and your site may be penalized for
this. It would be safest to keep the number of links below 50
for any page. The second reason that you don’t want too many
links is because they drain PR (PageRank). This basically means
that the importance of the page, the PR, is divided by the
number of outbound links. So you would be better of getting a
link from a website page that has a PR of 6 and only 10 outbound
links rather than a PR 6 website page with 200 outbound links.

External Campaign

The real value in links, as far as gaining better ranking in
search engines comes from external links. External links are
also known as backlinks, and they basically are just links to
your website from someone else’s website.

There are two types of external links – reciprocal and one-way.
Reciprocal links are links from a website in exchange for a
return link to that same website. Hence the term reciprocal.
Reciprocal links were very popular a few years back but are not
as valuable as one-way links. If another site is relevant to the
theme of your site then a reciprocal link is still useful so
don’t dismiss it entirely. What you really want is a one-way
link to your website in order to boost your rankings. Gaining
one-way links usually comes from supllying a brilliant resource
or software. If your site is deemed to contain lots of excellent
information that is freely available and original then many
others will be happy to place one-way links to your site.

When someone creates a link to your site the text that is used
for the link is very important. This is known as the link anchor
text. If someone kindly offered to place a link to my website on
their homepage, I would ask if they would use specific anchor
text for the link. This makes the link much more relevant. My
website is about website promotion in New Zealand, so I would
want something similar to the following:

Website Promotion New
Zealand

as opposed to:

Good NZ promotion site. Click Here

You can see that in the first example, the anchor text is
relevant and would help me to rank well for terms such as
“website promotion”, “website promotion New Zealand”, and “New
Zealand website promotion”. In the second example, I would be
improving my ranking for the term “click here”.

Conclusion

There are lots of very technical requirements to getting the
right linking strategies and nobody really knows for certain
what the exact requirements are. This is because search engines
do not disclose information about their ranking algorithms in
great detail and also because these algorithms change with time.
Different search engines have different requirements that they
are looking for, which further complicates matters. Unless you
are happy to get involved in SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
and spend absolutely ages on it, simply following my advice in
this article will improve your search engine rankings and save
you a lot of time and headaches.
